In 2024, an Eco Heating Systems heat pump was commissioned in a commercial property on the Oosterkade in Stadskanaal. The heat pump has an output of 50 kW and is part of a hybrid heating system. The heat pump is powerful enough to provide the building with heat year-round. However, the central heating boiler kicks in during peak loads and exceptionally cold winter periods. The objective was to further enhance the building's sustainability and maximize savings on gas consumption.
What was the plan
The property was already well-insulated and equipped with solar panels on the roof. Together with the specialists from Energiewacht, it was therefore decided to invest in a hybrid heat pump. The system consists of a 50 kW heat pump with a 500-liter buffer tank, complemented by a sustainable 105 kW high-efficiency boiler. The systems work together intelligently to ensure the building is heated as efficiently as possible.
The result
In 2024 and 2025, gas consumption was closely monitored to measure the impact of the heat pump installation. This allows for a direct comparison with the situation prior to the commissioning of the hybrid heat pump.
The data from this measurement was presented in Q2 of 2026. In the period prior to the installation of the heat pump, the annual gas consumption was 7,000 cubic meters. Following the commissioning of the heat pump, this consumption dropped to 170 cubic meters per year in 2025. This represents an incredible annual gas savings of 97.5%. A surprisingly substantial reduction that far exceeded expectations. Kudos to Energiewacht for their insight and advice in initiating this sustainability transition.

The majority of the gas savings were achieved through the commissioning of our heat pump. This demonstrates the system's power when it comes to sustainability, reducing CO2 emissions, and cutting annual energy costs. The entire investment will be recouped by this organization within just a few years.
