Installation advantages of a hybrid heat pump

Installing a hybrid heat pump offers several distinct advantages. It provides excellent flexibility during installation and makes modifying an existing (gas-fired) heating system straightforward. Additionally, a hybrid setup takes up significantly less physical space and requires a smaller electrical grid connection compared to a fully electric heat pump installation.

These installation benefits come on top of the fact that a hybrid configuration achieves a 76% reduction in annual gas consumption, while the heat pump itself only needs to supply 21% of the peak thermal capacity. Flexible installation and modifications

With a hybrid system, building owners can profit from sustainable heating without major infrastructural changes. Unlike fully electric alternatives, hybrid systems do not require extensive modifications to the building's core infrastructure. The existing central heating installation can often be retained and retrofitted, keeping upfront installation costs and operational disruption for occupants to an absolute minimum. Furthermore, hybrid systems are fully compatible with existing high-temperature radiators and underfloor heating networks.

 

Smaller electrical connection requirements

Transitioning to a fully electric heat pump system often demands a heavy-duty electrical grid upgrade, as all-electric heat pumps in larger commercial properties require a massive amount of electrical power. We frequently read in the media that grid operators can no longer deliver these upgraded connections on short notice. Even when possible, substantial fees are charged for both construction and ongoing usage. Because a hybrid system strategically pairs a gas boiler with an electric heat pump, the peak electrical load is significantly lower. This typically allows you to proceed with a much smaller grid upgrade or even utilize your existing power connection, leading to a lower initial investment and ensuring minimal disruption to your daily business operations.

 

Space savings with hybrid designs

A fully electric heat pump installation requires massive electrical and mechanical infrastructure, such as dedicated transformers, multiple outdoor units, and large buffer tanks. A hybrid system, however, utilizes both a compact boiler and a heat pump where the heat pump serves a supplementary role for base-load heating. Consequently, the footprint is much smaller, and there are fewer physical installation constraints. This is highly beneficial in scenarios where plant room space is limited, such as in existing utility buildings where available square footage is typically already fully utilized.

In short, a hybrid system allows you to enjoy a highly sustainable energy solution and reduce overhead expenses with relatively minor adjustments to your existing central heating layout. You can bypass heavy electrical grid upgrades while preserving valuable space within your facility.
