MFC De Hardenberg is a multi-purpose sports center in Finsterwolde. The center features an indoor swimming pool, a sports hall, fitness rooms, and a sports café. It serves as a regional community hub for all residents of the Oldambt region. The organization faced a major challenge: increasing the building's sustainability and reducing energy costs to achieve the highest possible annual savings, all without compromising on heat or comfort.
What was the plan
Multiple areas within the building and the overall heat supply were to be made more sustainable to achieve this goal. A key part of the plan involved the acquisition of heat pumps capable of managing both the heating and cooling throughout the building. This would result in a significant reduction in gas consumption. Additionally, a modern climate control system was to replace the outdated one, the swimming pool roof would be insulated, and 360 solar panels would be installed on the sports hall roof to generate the center's own electricity.
The result
By implementing all components of the plan, energy costs have been reduced by 50%. This was measured over a full year. Based on these calculations, the entire investment is expected to be earned back within five years. Currently, MFC De Hardenberg is working on updating and optimizing the Building Management System (BMS). This will allow the various components of the energy supply to be synchronized even more effectively, leading to further savings in annual energy consumption. A huge compliment goes out to MFC De Hardenberg, all parties involved, and especially Energiewacht. Their highly professional and extremely precise installation played a major role in the successful completion of this project
